HPScanPro.ds which the HP Installer for my new HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One installs into */Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources* is not HP software.

He did not seem to be at all familiar with Macs.

The person I spoke to was supposed to be a Mac support person. I have within the past hour spoken with HP Canada technical support (which turns out to be the same phone number as for HP US). There's a 'HPScanPro.ds' folder in "Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources', so I really don't see what could still be missing for Image Capture to use it.

But if it doesn't even work on the iMac directly. If Image capture can use it on the iMac it should be able to share it with Image Capture on the laptop, allowing me to scan from the laptop over Airport. The reason I want to be able to use Image Capture is because I want to share the scanner with my laptop over Airport. The button does not appear to do anything. There's a strange tiny blue-gray cross icon under 'Kind' and a 'Use TWAIN UI' button in the 'Use TWAIN UI' column (?). It's under "TWAIN Data sources': 'HPScanPro'. It says "No Image Capture device connected" even though it does list HPScanPro in its device browser. However, for some reason I cannot scan from Image Capture.

I can also scan from Photoshop using "Import" - "HP Scan Pro (TWAIN)". Printing works fine, directly and shared over Airport (MacBook Pro -> Airport -> iMac -> USB -> Printer), and scanning works fine on the iMac with the supplied HP software. If you later choose to scan from a different app and get the same error, repeat these steps.Īpple didn't give a timeframe for the fix.I have just bought an HP F2280 printer/scanner/copier.

In the window that opens, double-click the app named in the error message.Type /Library/Image Capture/Devices, then press Return. From the menu bar in the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.

The message says to contact your computer or network administrator for assistance, or indicates that your Mac failed to open a connection to the device (-21345).Īpple says that whilst an update to resolve the issue is coming, there are some steps you can follow in the meantime. When attempting to connect to your scanner and begin a scan, you might get a message that you do not have permission to open the application, followed by the name of your scanner driver. Apple says it plans to fix an issue with users who don't have permission to use their scanner on Mac.Ī new support document spotted by MacRumors is titled "You do not have permission to open the application' when using a scanner on Mac" and notes some users might be getting an error when trying to use a scanner in Image Capture, Preview, or Printer & Scanners preferences:
